The
causes of female
infertility can be varied. Starting from Pelvic Inflammatory
Disease, which account for around 75% of infertility
in women, it covers Anovulation
(that refers to ovulation problems), Polycystic Ovarian
Syndrome, Hypothalamic Amenorrhea, Androgen
Insensitivity Syndrome, Luteal Phase Defect, Gonadal
Dysgenesis, Endometriosis, Uterine fibroids, Cervical
Stenosis, Menopause, Premature Ovarian failure
and
also age.
Pelvic
Inflammatory Disease or PID usually occurs on account of
a wide array of infections caused by bacteria that
generally affects her reproductive organs, appendix as
also part
of her intestine that fall within the pelvic area. But
when the infection spreads to her fallopian tubes, it
gets blocked so the egg can not reach the uterus,
thereby turning her infertile. Medically termed as Salpingitis, it
is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia
trachomatis, a
sexually transmitted infection or STI.
PID may also be caused by Pelvic Tuberculosis, tuberculosis becoming a growing global health hazard that goes almost unchecked in most developing countries. Causes of female infertility are also the after-effects of abortion done under non-sterile conditions when her reproductive organs are abruptly exposed to various infective organisms that eventually render her infertile.
Causes responsible for female infertility
Female infertility can also be
linked with endometriosis
(around 30%) although it has not been determined whether
endometriosis alone is responsible for infertility or it
is only a contributory factor leading to it.
Nevertheless, most infertile women have been diagnosed
to be suffering from the disease condition.
Ovaries producing excessively high
amount male hormone that is linked with Polycystic
Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS also causes infertility in
women
. The increased androgen production in women
affected with PCOS lowers the follicle-stimulating
hormone level, as a result of which the follicles fail
in producing a matured egg and so conception can never
take place. Besides, the failed follicles start swelling
with fluids, taking the form of cysts. As more and more
follicle turn into cysts, the ovary becomes enlarged
till it resembles a grapefruit, causing not only
infertility but a host of complications.
Sometimes
nature too plays a negative role in providing normal
ovarian function in a female in the form of Premature
Ovarian Failure witnessed by depletion of follicles that
start much before the menopausal age of forty or more.
Clinically referred to as Early Menopause,
this is considered to be a significant cause of
infertility in women who have very little chance of
conception without appropriate fertility treatment.
Some more common causes of infertility
Women suffering from Hypothalamic
Amenorrhea are likely to become infertile due to the
absence of menstruation caused on account of some
measure of disturbance in the thyroid gland and the
hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal system that regulates the
reproduction process in women.
Uterine
fibroids, especially those that develop under the lining
of the uterine cavity and are known as sub-mucosal
uterine fibroid cause miscarriage, heavy bleeding and
infertility in women. In Cervical Infertility that
includes Cervical
Stenosis and Non-receptive
cervical mucus the sperm can not pass through the mouth of uterus
due to an obstruction or stenos while it fails travel to
the uterus on account of inadequate or inhospitable
cervical mucus.
The fact is, female infertility cannot be cured by conventional therapies and treatments. That is because this approach never tries to find out the real causes of female infertility and just suggests medications or assisted reproduction techniques . Holistic remedies on the other hand first delves deep into the body and finds out the causes of female infertility and then suggests remedies that can range from Chinese medicines to diet changes to acupuncture to herbs to exercise and even acupuncture. Over the years, holistic remedies have proved to be the better approach and indeed it does offer better results as well.
